The Rottweilers used as herders and drovers of various animals including cattle and reindeer also pulled or hauled various vehicles such as carts and sleds or participated as rescues or as hunters for such big animals as lions, etc. The dogs were very strong and only the strongest animals became selected for work and breeding as not all Rottweilers were suited to undertake such tasks.
Rottweilers Breeders Pictures - General Breed Usage
These dogs were used as guards, fighters, working dogs and also as herders. The Rottweilers were used for these tasks and therefore they should have been rather strong and healthy. These dogs have always been people's companion and they are very devoted to their owners. These working dogs are generally large, intelligent, and protective of their masters.
Perceived as real assets to their owners, Rottweilers have worked with man replacing larger animals such as horses when none such animals were available. Nowadays as the advanced technology and machinery have negated some of the working requirements of these dogs, the latter usually predisposes them as pets and companions.
Although they are not aggressive, they are very protective dogs and are full of strength, and courage. Thus, many dogs, including Rottweilers, helped people according to their specific requirements, such as guarding the premises.
Until the 19th Century, people prized these dogs for their working abilities and so forth. However, breeding for appearance received introduction in the 19th century although Rottweilers previously were bred for work and for fighting. Therefore, Working Dog characteristics as well as unusual appearance and features now characterize the Rottweilers.
