The ideal Rottweiler should be medium to large size, robust and powerful. There can be markings that are usually black with clearly defined mahogany, rust, or, rich tan markings. The body of the dog is compact and substantial that should denote great strength, agility and endurance. Males are naturally larger than females with heavier bone structure and a more masculine appearance.

Rottweilers Breeders Pictures - Two Types of the Dogs

In 1926, there were two sizes of Rottweilers. One type was heavier and used for draft work while the smaller was more agile and used for working the stock. These two strains were not interbred. The larger dogs were of solid color and the smaller type had white markings. As the dogs sole intentions were as working dogs, the coloring of the coat was ignored.

The dogs are used nowadays as guard dogs, police dogs, sled dogs as well as rescue dogs. Thus, the dogs are working dogs. To the group of working dogs belong such breeds as Akita, Alaskan Malamute, Anatolian Shepherd Dog, Bernese Mountain Dog, Boxer, Bullmastiff, Doberman Pinscher, German Pinscher, Giant Schnauzer, Great Dane, Great Pyrenees, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Komondor, Kuvasz, Mastiff, Newfoundland, Portuguese Water Dog, Rottweiler, Saint Bernard, Samoyed, Siberian Husky and the Standard Schnauzer.
